Attitude of Gratitude

During this season of giving and thanks, we would like to share our appreciation for everyone in our community that supports the staff and students. We are surrounded by constant acts of kindness that continue to make Rowayton Elementary a special place to grow and learn. To the parents that continue to help us learn about composting during lunch, the families donating surprise treats in the teachers lounge, the volunteers that coordinate events, and the visitors that enhance our learning - THANK YOU! We cannot possibly capture all the ways we are supported each day, but please know that your support has an immense impact and we are grateful.

Glow Party for Rowayton R.O.C.K.S.

Having a common language that carries the same meaning and outcomes for every student is important for success. Rowayton R.O.C.K.S. will be embedded in all lessons throughout the day as it is the pillar of our expectations for good character and social interaction. To celebrate each student in the school earning at least one gold star on R.O.C.K.S. Road, we will host a glow party in the cafeteria during the afternoon of November 28. Students are encouraged to wear white or neon colors.

Norwalk BOE Town Hall: Capital Budget Priorities

The Norwalk BOE is inviting the Norwalk community to a Town Hall focusing on the FY 2024-25 Operating & Capital Budgets. The town hall is November 28 at 7pm at Jefferson Marine Science Elementary School. School communities are invited to share what they think the priorities should be for next year’s budget.

Parent Volunteers Needed for the STEAM Assembly on December 1

We have a really cool assembly coming on 12/1 and need volunteers. There will be a mobile STEAM museum set up in the gym and classes will visit throughout the day. Volunteers will help students with the different hands on exhibits. We need six volunteers per session, each lasting 45 minutes. You can sign up when your child will be there or stay for a couple sessions.

Please join us on Thursday, December for a night celebrating literacy. Rowayton ROCKS Literacy NIght will take place from 5:30pm - 7:00pm. The event will include a book walk and pasta dinner. Families must RSVP for this event in order to guarantee dinner. A flyer was sent home earlier in the week.

Help Us Complete the School Governance Council Legacy Pathway Project

This past spring our School Governance Council introduced the Legathy Pathway Project. This project will increase safety by improving our front path and walkways. The front path is a high traffic area used daily by our bus riders, walkers, and visitors. The project will also create multiple unique learning spaces around our campus with the installation of benches.

In a short amount of time we raised $45,000. Now we need to reach our final goal of $75,000 so that we can have the path and benches installed this spring.

There will be some upcoming opportunities to donate or fundraise during November and December These include:

  • Legacy Pathway Project donation table at the Rowayton Turkey Trot
  • Literacy NIght Bake Sale and Raffle
  • Holiday SIng Along Raffle

You can always make a cash or check donation directly to school. Please share this project with your family and friends. Thank you for your support.

Attendance Matters

Good attendance gives your child the best chance to be successful at school. We understand that sometimes children are sick and cannot be at school, but it is important for them to attend each day they are able. Students are considered chronically absent by the State of Connecticut when they have missed 10% of the current days of school. The total includes both excused and unexcused absences. Students with even more absences are considered dangerously absent.

In order to support our community with attendance, we will be sending letters to families of students that are currently considered chronically absent each month. Please contact the office if you have any questions or if there is anything we can do to support you in ensuring that your child is at school. You can always contact our school nurse if you have any questions about your child's health. Please note that if your child is absent for reasons other than illness, the absences will likely be recorded as unexcused. Teachers may only provide school work for students who absent due to quarantine or other special circumstances.
