Sailing Into a New School Year
On behalf of the entire staff at Rowayton Elementary School, I am excited to welcome all of our students and families to the 2024-2025 school year! We had an amazing first week. We were reminded of how wonderful it feels when our school is filled with hearts and minds eager to learn. Students explored new learning spaces in the building, and met with new and old friends. The smiles and laughter brought us instant joy. We appreciate all your support as we set out on this journey together. We know that a strong partnership with our families and community will continue to make a great difference in the education of all our students.
Join the Band!
Mr. Kiernan has planned an engaging music program for our students in Grades 3, 4, and 5. This week, he met with students in each of those grade levels to present instrument options for band and orchestra.
The third graders were treated to demonstrations of each instrument in preparation for this year's beginning orchestra musicians. Students have the choice of violin, viola, or cello. The fourth grade classes were introduced to the instruments in the concert band. Students will have the choices of clarinet, flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, or percussion. Fifth graders are ready for both band and orchestra instruments. Mr. Kiernan welcomes any students who want to try an instrument for the first time!
Participating in band and orchestra lessons is optional for students. We ask that families consider the responsibility of balancing academics and music. The lessons take place during the school day and will require additional practice at home. Forms will be going home this week with more information. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Kiernan at Kiernanj@norwalkps.org
