W.I.N. = What I Need

W.I.N. = What I Need

Throughout the district, schools are providing targeted instruction to students in grades 1-8 through a "What I Need" (W.I.N.) period. This period allows students to receive 30 minutes of targeted instruction daily. Every 6-8 weeks, the school will analyze data and create different groups to tailor instruction to the specific needs of students. This approach ensures that students receive the support and instruction they need to succeed academically. If you would like more information about your child's W.I.N. group, please contact your child's teacher.

Rowayton's Annual Pumpkin Parade

Pumpkin Parade: The parade will begin at 2:15 on Tuesday, October 31 on our school field. Students will march around the field similar to the Walk A Thon. Families are encouraged to gather around the perimeter of the field for viewing.

Fundraiser: Fifth grade parents will be hosting a fundraiser following the parade. Please see details in the flyer below.

Costume Donations: The PTA arranges a costume donation each year to provide costumes for students in need. If you do not want your child to wear or receive a costume, please be sure to tell your child’s classroom teacher.

Wearing a Costume to School: Please make sure that costumes worn to school allow students to participate in the regular school day (including recess, lunch, and using the bathroom). Any accessories or costume masks should be kept in backpacks or bags until it is time for the parade. Please no full face make up during the school day.

Bringing a Costume to School: Students may wear clothing that will fit under their costume and bring the costume to school. We are asking that students be prepared to independently put on their costumes over their clothing. Costumes should be labeled and packed in backpacks or bags.

Wearing Fall Themed Attire: Students may come to school dressed in orange and black or any fall inspired attire. Students may wear these outfits for the parade, costumes are not required.

Costume Guidelines: Please avoid very scary masks or costumes that may frighten young children. We want this day to be enjoyable for all of our students. Please do not send children to school with any accessories that resemble a weapon.

*Kindergarten parents will receive a separate communication from your child’s teacher regarding costume guidelines for that day

Pumpkin Parade Day Costumes and Volunteers

Thank you for all of the costume donations we have received so far. We are going to move forward with monetary donations only so that the team can target the exact sizes and types of costumes needed. Please use the links below if you can support. Thank you!
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Pumpkin Parade on October 31 at 2:15pm!

Please consider making a donation and/or volunteering to paint faces & help children style costumes the morning of the parade!

Safety Protocols

We are so impressed by our staff and students' preparedness and quick response to our recent safety protocols. We are always grateful to the Norwalk Police, Fire, and EMS that respond if we need their assistance. Below is a brief description of the protocols used this week, what happens during that time, and why we might use them. We practice at least one protocol each month as a school. We also have a Safety Committee that debriefs each incident to ensure continued preparedness.

HOLD: Students and staff stay in classrooms or learning spaces. Learning and activities can continue to take place. Hallways in the school are kept clear for easy passage. This might be used for medical or facilities personnel to access the hallways.

SECURE: Students and staff stay inside the building and continue business as usual. No visitors are allowed at this time. This may be used if there is a report of anything unsafe in our area such as an animal or hazzard.

Rowayton Student Work Showcased at Hispanic Heritage Festival

Our school had a beautiful display at the district's Hispanic Heritage Festival. Our display included art work, projects, slide decks, essays, and photos representing the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Shout out to Catherine for sharing her amazing essay on Sonia Sotomayor!

Safety Tips Brought to You by the Safety Patrol

Safety Tips Brought to You by the Safety Patrol

Did you know that RES has a safety patrol comprised of 5th grade students? The students are i the circle each morning to help the flow of traffic and keep everyone safe. Please follow these guidelines when arriving at school by car each day.
1) Pull all the way up so that we can fit as many cars as possible in the circle and driveway
2) Stay in your car and a safety patrol member will open the door to help your children
3) Line up alongside the doors, not in front for easy access into the building upon arrival

Thank you for your cooperation! Special thanks to Mr. Liberatore and Ms. Curri for making this video!
