NWEA Map Growth Assessment Dates for January
NWEA MAP Growth assessment is a nationally standardized test which measures what students know and informs what they're ready to learn by using a computer adaptive test that adjusts to the student. Your child's teacher will use the results of the NWEA MAP Growth assessments to better understand your child's individual needs in order to promote progress. Students at Rowayton will participate in the NWEA MAP Growth assessments in math and reading at the beginning, middle, and end of the year.
The window for administering these tests is coming up. Below is an outline of the grades that will be testing each day. Your child’s teacher can provide you with a more a more detailed outline of the testing schedule.
If your child must be absent during this window, a make up date will be arranged. Teachers have prepared for positive and calm testing environments. We are also talking about testing strategies and goal setting during Community Builder Meetings.
Please join us in ensuring that our students are both mentally and physically prepared. We encourage rest the night before, and breakfast will be available at school if needed. Thank you for your continued support!

Help Us Complete the School Governance Council Legacy Pathway Project
This past spring our School Governance Council introduced the Legathy Pathway Project. This project will increase safety by improving our front path and walkways. The front path is a high traffic area used daily by our bus riders, walkers, and visitors. The project will also create multiple unique learning spaces around our campus with the installation of benches.
In a short amount of time we raised $45,000. Now we need to reach our final goal of $75,000 so that we can have the path and benches installed this spring.
You can always make a cash or check donation directly to school. Please share this project with your family and friends. Thank you for your support.

Many of our teachers have instagram accounts. This is one of the best ways to get a quick peak at what is happening weekly at school. Our Library Media Specialist, Miss Curri, has recently started an account. Follow her at @rowaytonrocks_librarymedia
Our Social Emotional Learning teacher, Mrs. Lang, posts wonderful photos and ideas. She has many followers but we are trying to boost her to 500 followers! Please help us do that by following Mrs. Lang at @rowaytonrocks_sel

Attendance Updates
Parents will now receive attendance updates through ParentSquare. When a child is marked absent, an alert will be sent in an email or text through ParentSquare. These alerts are automated and will be sent any time a child is absent, even if the school knows about the absence in advance.
Good attendance gives your child the best chance to be successful at school. We understand that sometimes children are sick and cannot be at school, but it is important for them to attend each day they are able. Students are considered chronically absent by the State of Connecticut when they have missed 10% of the current days of school. The total includes both excused and unexcused absences. Students with even more absences are considered dangerously absent. Please note that if your child is absent for reasons other than illness, the absences will be recorded as unexcused. Teachers may only provide school work for students who absent due to quarantine or other special circumstances.
