Dress for the Cold Weather this Week!
The temperatures are expected to be very low this coming week. We will not go outside for recess when it is too cold, but students may be walking home or waiting at bus stops. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.
A reminder that it is important that all students wear or bring a coat to school for recess. A coat is and additional covering that students can wear when outside, not a fleece or sweatshirt. We will try to be outside for recess as long as the weather allows, so students must be dressed appropriately to participate. Hats, gloves, and ear muffs are also encouraged. Consider putting your child's name or initials inside any items so that they can be easily identified if they end up in the Lost and Found. The Lost and Found will continue to be displayed on the wall in the cafeteria.
Save the Date for Pizza and Kahoot!
Pizza and Kahoot night is back this year. Please join us for this fun family event. Students will receive pizza kits that they ordered to bring home where they can make their own personal pizzas from scratch, and then join in with the rest of their friends on a fun online game led by Dr. Cummings and other school staff. Kahoot! is an online trivia game the entire family can enjoy from your own home. Dr. Cummings will send out links and instructions on how to join just before game time. You can use any device including your student's school computer!
Date: Feb 6th, 2025
Time: 6pm, K-2 and 7pm, 3-5
Pizzas kits will go home from school with kids.
Please contact Kimmi Deklyn with any questions.
Rowayton Testing Schedules
In an effort to reduce assessments, Norwalk Public Schools is making some changes to the 2025 testing schedule. The SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment) testing serves as our end-of-year measure for students in grades 3-8 therefore we are eliminating the NWEA end of year assessment for these grades. This change allows us to reschedule the NWEA MOY testing to February.
Students in grades K-2 will continue to take the NWEA EOY/spring assessment. Our goal is to increase learning opportunities while ensuring students perform to their best abilities on the assessments they take. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
NWEA MAP Growth Assessments February 3 - February 14
NWEA MAP Growth assessment is a nationally standardized test which measures what students are ready to learn by using a computer adaptive test that adjusts to the individual. Your child's teacher will use the results of the NWEA MAP Growth assessments to better understand your child's individual needs in order to promote progress. Students in Grades K through 5 at Rowayton will participate in the NWEA MAP Growth assessments in math and literacy at various times in the year.
The window for administering these tests is coming up. Your child’s teacher can provide you with a more a more detailed outline of the testing schedule.
If your child must be absent during this window, a make up date will be arranged. The last day for make-ups for this session is February 14. Teachers have prepared for positive and calm testing environments. We are also talking about testing strategies and goal setting during Community Builder Meetings.
Please join us in ensuring that our students are both mentally and physically prepared. We encourage rest the night before, and breakfast will be available at school if needed. Thank you for your continued support!
