Art in the Sky

Art in the Sky
Rowayton

On Oct. 25, students at Rowayton Elementary School gathered in a sea of red and white to create an art project only visible from high above.

The entire school worked together to complete a beautiful, living piece of art called “Art in the Sky” because it could only be seen clearly from a bird’s eye view. Students dressed in red and white created one-half of a large sail boat with white bed sheets used to create the sail’s other half. The boat sailed on a blue sea of donated denim jeans.

Preparing for the project in their daily community builder meetings, the Art in the Sky piece taught students Intention, Collaboration, Interconnection, Collaboration, Sky-Sight, Gratitude & Apology, and Impermanence. These lessons were not only important during the art installation but will continue to resonate when the school reflects on this incredible experience and throughout the school year.
